About YODUN

Organization History

The Yoruba Descendants Union of North Florida brings together individuals and families with a shared commitment to Yoruba heritage and community. Our story is one of connection—honoring where we come from while building a sense of belonging where we live.

Through fellowship, cultural celebrations, and service, we strengthen relationships across generations and encourage the sharing of our language, traditions, and values. Together, we are building a legacy that our children and future generations can proudly carry forward.

Mission

To unite Yoruba descendants and families across North Florida, preserve and celebrate Yoruba culture, promote the values of Omoluabi, and strengthen our community through fellowship, education, mutual support, and service.

Omoluabi Values / Community Principles

At the heart of our community is the Yoruba ideal of Omoluabi—a person of good character. It inspires how we treat one another, lead our organization, and contribute to society.

Respect: We honor our elders, value every person’s dignity, and encourage mutual respect across generations.

Integrity: We uphold honesty, keep our word, and take responsibility for our actions.

Compassion: We care for one another and offer encouragement and support in times of celebration and difficulty.

Unity: We build meaningful relationships, welcome different perspectives, and work together for the common good.

Service: We give our time, talents, and resources to strengthen our community and help others.

Diligence and Excellence: We value hard work, lifelong learning, and the pursuit of excellence.
